Description

Growkit McKennaii

Growkit McKennaii is a complete, research-grade kit containing a fully colonised substrate with mature mycelium. The growbox itself does not contain any illegal substances and is intended strictly for microscopy, taxonomic comparison, laboratory observation and collector purposes. This kit is not designed for cultivation. Growing psilocybin mushrooms remains illegal in Poland and in many other countries, and we strongly advise adhering to all local regulations.

By purchasing this growkit, you confirm that it will not be used unlawfully or for the formation of fruiting bodies. Misuse of the product is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Before ordering, always verify the legal status of Psilocybe materials within your country or jurisdiction. For a general overview of research kits, see also: what is a growkit.

How to store the McKennaii growkit

All growkits are kept in controlled refrigeration at 2–5 °C. Under proper cold-chain conditions the manufacturer guarantees freshness for up to roughly six months from production. After receiving your delivery, place the kit in the refrigerator immediately and avoid repeated temperature fluctuations. For optimal results, microscopy or laboratory research should begin within 72 hours of receipt.

Step-by-step storage recommendations and practical tips can be found here: how to store a growkit.

What’s included

  • cardboard packaging,
  • growbox with mature mycelium — 1200 ml,
  • filtered, perforated growbag,
  • clips for closing the bag.

Note: printed cultivation instructions are not included due to legal regulations. If you live in a country where cultivation is permitted, you may refer to our educational guide: growkit instruction. For a broader, theoretical look at how research kits are built and used, see also: multiple throws from one growkit.

Characteristics of the McKennaii strain

The McKennaii strain is widely regarded as one of the more visually complex and intense Psilocybe cubensis varieties observed in legal research settings. Under the microscope, researchers often report:

  • dark brown, smooth cap pigmentation (in countries where fruiting is legal),
  • dense and fibrous rhizomorphic structures,
  • sturdy early-stage stem formation,
  • highly expressive morphological patterns that are easy to document.

Because of its strong visual dynamics, McKennaii is frequently used in comparative projects alongside strains such as Golden Teacher or Mazatapec, allowing researchers to study differences in colonisation speed and morphology between several P. cubensis lines.

Variety

Species: Psilocybe cubensis
Strain: McKennaii

History of the McKennaii strain

The exact genetic origin of McKennaii remains partially undocumented, but its popularity rose alongside the works of Terence McKenna, an influential ethnobotanist, author and philosopher known for his exploration of plant traditions and altered states of consciousness. His books, such as The Archaic Revival and Food of the Gods, helped spark modern interest in psychedelic research.

Today McKennaii is one of the most recognisable strains in legal mycology circles and is often chosen by more experienced researchers looking for a visually rich strain to document. For broader context on safe frameworks around psychedelic work and post-experience processing, you can read our article on psychedelic integration.

Is cultivation allowed?

In Poland — and in many EU countries — cultivation of psilocybin-producing mushrooms is illegal. We do not promote or support cultivation. Our growkits are sold exclusively as legal research and collector’s material. If you live in a country where cultivation is permitted, you may consult our educational guide: growkit instruction, but always act within the law of your jurisdiction.

Microscopy observations

In regions where mycological research is allowed, McKennaii is often described as a strain with:

  • strong visual density under magnification,
  • interesting cap–stem formation ratios (in legal fruiting contexts),
  • expressive hyphal networks and rhizomorphic growth,
  • widely recognisable patterns, making it a popular choice for advanced microscopy work.

This makes the McKennaii growkit suitable for comparative analysis, documentation projects and educational demonstrations. For safe-context educational materials related to psychedelic experiences, see: trip preparation & safety.

McKennaii growkit — FAQ

Is this growkit legal?

Yes. Mycelium is legal to own because it does not contain psychoactive compounds. Laws differ by country, so you should always check local regulations before ordering.

Does the kit contain psilocybin?

No. Psilocybin is only present in mature fruiting bodies, not in mycelium. The growkit is intended for early-stage research, microscopy and education.

How long does the kit stay fresh?

Up to around six months when stored continuously at 2–5 °C. For best quality we recommend starting your research soon after delivery.

Can I grow mushrooms from this kit?

Only if it is legal in your country. In Poland and many EU countries cultivation of psilocybin-producing mushrooms is illegal and may result in criminal liability. Always follow the law in your jurisdiction.

Who is McKennaii named after?

McKennaii is named in honour of Terence McKenna — an American philosopher, ethnobotanist and author whose work greatly influenced contemporary interest in psychedelics and plant-based traditions.

All content on psychodelicroom.pl is educational and research-oriented. We do not encourage the use of psychoactive substances or breaking the law. In countries where fruiting is prohibited – including Poland – growkits should be disposed of within 72 hours of receipt.
