Psilocybe cubensis is a species of psychedelic mushroom that contains the active compounds psilocybin and psilocin. There are about 60 varieties in the world. The etymology of the name is as follows: “psilos” means to rub or shave. On the other hand, “cybe” comes from the word “kybe” and means exactly “head”, “cubensis” – the place where the species was collected, i.e. in Cuba in 1904. In summary, “psilocybe cubensis” means “shaved head from Cuba.” A common name for this is magic mushrooms, or hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Psilocybe cubensis belong to the Hymenogastraceae family. Their almost unmistakable bulging, flat, yellow-brown hats give them the name “golden halos.” Mt can be distinguished from its derivative counterparts by their proportionally large stem size and expanded hats. They naturally germinate in cattle feces, while in organized cultures they germinate on substrates like coffee or brown rice flour. A distinctive feature of psilocybe cubensis is the green-blue bruises on the stems. This is the result of oxidation of phenolic compounds, which are precursors of biosynthesis, among other things. psilocybin.
